Investment Planning

Investment Planning with One Financial Solutions

The term “investment planning” has several different definitions, but in the main refers to the act of putting money into different types of schemes, property or shares with the aim to generating a profit at a later date.

We start with you – it's very personal and we keep it that way!

Now no one invests their money expecting to make losses, however this is something that has to be considered, because there are inherently risks associated with any investments. Plus there’s the desire not to invest our monies in schemes that could do more harm than good, ie those that are not focused on environmental, ethical or governance issues – but how do we know which funds to avoid? And how best to avoid significant losses? The answer – to seek professional, intelligent investing advice – from a financial firm that really cares.

We start with you – your own financial goals and how you want to use your money in the future. We’ll help you navigate the inevitable longer term volatility that life can bring, ensuring we’re  with you every step so the approach we mutually agree on feels safe for you.

Investment funds overview…

Managing and reducing risk is a constant part of any investment strategy.  Whilst it may be tempting to put all our hard earned cash in the next big opportunity, the phrase “not putting all your eggs into one basket” really must be adhered to! Ideally you should build a “diverse investment portfolio” meaning you spread your capital – and your risk – across different types of investments.

To mitigate this risk, we utilise investment funds which are ready-made portfolios that reduce the need for intricate and indepth research.

The 3 most common funds or “collective schemes” in the UK are unit trusts, open-ended investment companies (OEICs) and exchange traded funds (ETFs).

But the jargon does not end here – there are then a series of different types of funds that we can manage on your behalf based on your financial goals, timelines and your attitude to risk – ie how long do you anticipate keeping the investment, and how happy you are to place your money in funds that carry a higher risk of losses – but conversely could also bring a far higher profit margin.

Asset classes:

Investment opportunities are generally referred to as “assets”, the five most generally accepted are:

  • Cash & Money – bank accounts, cash ISAs and Premium Bonds
  • Fixed-income securities – corporate bonds and government bonds / gifts
  • Property – commercial funds
  • Equities – stocks and shares
  • Alternatives

These may sound familiar or complex depending on how far you’ve come on your investment journey, and you may already have monies squirreled away in some of these assets already. We excel at building long lasting relationships so whether life is rosy or if life takes a turn for the worse, we’ll always have your back and advise you how to maximise any circumstance with our investment advisory services.

DIY investing:

It’s a common misconception that you need hundreds of thousands of pounds to invest with a financial planner, and therefore you may be tempted to set up investments all on your own.

Whether you’ve got a couple of thousand in an inheritance or you’re considering cashing in on your pension – if you go it alone, you’ll need to do all that research yourself and could end up playing a risky game with your future.

The same could be said for property investing – it may or may not be right for you.  Our property investment advisors are there to ensure you don’t make costly mistakes.

Investing for children:

We all want to give our children the best start in life and reduce any financial struggles and strains they may encounter as they move through adulthood.

Investing for our children as early as possible – taking a long-term view – is without doubt the best way to build a tax-free nest egg that they can put towards university fees, or even the first rung of the property ladder, especially with compound interest not only increasing the initial capital sum, but paying interest on what you earn on interest – when the funds are managed properly!

Again there are several options available including Junior ISAs (JISAs), shares, trusts and junior pensions.  We’ll work with you to determine exactly what is best for you and your family.
